Work From Home: Is Boundary Blurred

Some argue that one comes closer to family, while others argue that “the home widened the gap.” Every action has both positive and negative consequences. Working from home may appear to be handy, but is it really so? Let’s see how things go using the information I gathered from individuals.

A Quick Discussion with Peers

Discussing with my peers, I learned how working from home affected their productivity, even though virtual meetings allow you to ditch your pants and work in more comfortable clothing. Working from home, according to one of my colleagues, enhanced people’s confidence and is a good way for housewives to earn money. But what about one’s lifestyle?

Work from “Home”

Working from home for a few days can be a blessing, but for weeks or months, it can be a curse. It may appear to be convenient for women, but somewhere in the midst of the household chaos, they are losing their professionalism. Home, where people come after work to spend time with family and to relax, will be your workplace and you will need some other place to go and relax. The need can be frustrating. We will miss socializing, with all the tea/coffee breaks.

Lifestyle

Sitting on the comfortable sofas, in front of a screen with a good internet connection is the need of the “work from home”. One doesn’t have to move from our seats for the whole day, which only has an adverse effect on our health.

The Blurred Boundary

The boundary I referred to in the title is the one that separates our professional and personal lives. The boundary is getting blurred. According to a poll conducted by FlexJobs and Mental Health

In America, 37% of employed respondents reported that since the pandemic began, they have worked longer hours than normal. People never stop working when they have fewer boundaries. We have to set a boundary between work hours and rest hours.

The Eight-Hour Formula

In these times of work from home, we must adhere to Robert Owen’s concept of an eight-hour day.

Eight hours labour

Eight hours recreation

Eight hours rest

This eight-hour formula is used to increase productivity at work while maintaining people’s mental wellness.

Need of the Hour

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, or what some call “ultimate self-care,” can also be enjoyable. The morning might provide some peace in today’s hectic lifestyle. We can all benefit from practising digital detox. A period of time during which a person refrains from using digital devices such as cellphones, computers, and social media platforms is referred to as a digital detox. If we talk about reading, according to a University of Sussex study, spending just six minutes a day reading can reduce stress by 68 percent. Waking up early, practising digital detox, and reading are a few ways to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

I, personally hate this culture of working on the screen the whole day. Writing these words with a pen, will type later.
